 Celebrating our 90th year, Daubert Chemical Company is a profitable, family-owned specialty chemical manufacturer and a market leader in the brands that we sell to our end users and distributors, including products such as corrosion preventive coatings, industrial greases and adhesives. We are seeking a mid level R&D Formulation Chemist for our coatings products in our R&D Lab located onsite at our chemical manufacturing plant near Midway Airport. This role conducts research, analysis, and experimentation on substances to resolve quality problems, improve the marketability or profitability of current products, and evaluate the feasibility of new products under moderate supervision. 

What you will do:

  • Perform the assigned experiments and report findings to Supervisor with propose conclusions. Discuss implementation of solutions with management.
    • Research and evaluate raw materials for potential use in production processes.
    • Propose and evaluate new formulations and manufacturing processes.
    • Test current products for performance and quality and identify any areas for improvement.
    • Technical service support as assigned and begin dialogue with customers and sales with
    • supervision.
    • Prepare samples and obtain feedback from Sales and customers with supervision.
    • Assist as needed in QA Lab operations including proposing batch adjustments.
    • Aid in new test method creation or improvement to existing methods.
  • Develop an understanding of Daubert’s manufacturing processes (tanks, engineering capabilities), GMP and capabilities. Advancing knowledge of quality, manufacturing, engineering and sales within the company.
  • Maintain a lab notebook, logs of test plans, materials, methods, and results.
  • Generates lab reports, formulations, and cost sheets for appropriate personnel.
  • As requested, reviews new product entries for completeness and implements engineering change orders.
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within this particular field. Tests and evaluates compounds for customers according to prescribed specifications (customer specific, military specifications, ASTM, etc.) in order to ensure the quality of products provided to the customer meets or exceeds these specifications. Minimal supervision.
  • Perform 5S in the lab, log in SDS, check in raw materials, and calibrate equipment.
  • All duties must be performed in a safe manner following OSHA’s Laboratory Standard (29 CFR 1910.1450) and Daubert Chemical Company’s training, instructions and procedures including proper wearing of required PPE.
Your Qualifications: 
  • B.S. in Chemistry from an accredited institution is the minimum requirement and 2-5 years related experience, preferably in an industrial chemical environment. We may consider applicants with a related science undergraduate degree plus required years of lab experience. 
  • Undergraduate research is a plus.  
  • Interpret documents presented in writing, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write lab reports and correspondence and speak confidently when presenting information both inside and outside of the Company. 
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; identify gaps in data and conduct further experimentation to generate needed information. 
  • Demonstrate ability in defining and solving problems and discuss professionally and effectively.  
  • Support and practice a culture of safety; follows all workplace health and safety procedures. Responsible for safety performance in respective area and ensures that injury prevention efforts are a strong focus.  
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft programs such as Outlook, Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint). Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint are required for formulations, cost sheets, reports, and presentations.
