Controller
In business since 1935, Daubert Chemical Company is a profitable, family-owned specialty chemical manufacturer and a market leader in the brands that we sell to our end users and distributors.
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Controller to lead and manage the organization's accounting operations, including cost accounting, accounts payable, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial information, driving process improvements, enhancing quality control initiatives, and supporting strategic business decisions through accurate and timely financial reporting.
The Controller will oversee the monthly and annual close processes, account reconciliations, standard cost accounting systems, financial planning support, and compliance with U.S. GAAP. As a key member of the accounting team, this position partners closely with operations, purchasing, sales, production, and executive leadership to improve financial performance and operational effectiveness.
The position reports to the VP CFO and is located in the Burr Ridge office. Travel to and from the manufacturing plant in Forest View is expected for in-person meetings and company events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Managing the financial recordkeeping, reporting, standard cost system, and internal control structures across the organization.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of financial reporting, planning, and budgeting systems.
- Prepare external financial statements and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
- Research accounting guidance and oversee annual external financial audits.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve accounting systems, procedures, and policies.
- Lead the monthly and annual financial close process, including account analyses and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports identifying business results, trends, risks, and forecasts.
- Review all financial plans and budgets regularly to look for cost reduction opportunities.
- Develop and implement systems and controls to prevent errors in data collection, reporting, and calculations.
- Serve as the Sales Tax Software Administrator.
- Provide the VP CFO with timely, accurate, and actionable financial information.
- Assist the CFO in preparing reports for senior leadership, stakeholders, and board members.
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members by establishing clear expectations and accountability.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, including significant cost accounting experience.
- Experience with standard cost accounting systems in a batch-process manufacturing environment preferred.
- Strong background in cost containment and financial performance improvement initiatives.
- Experience with general ledger accounting, financial analysis, and accounts payable operations.
- Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring accounting professionals. Ability to facilitate positive teamwork and lead by example.
- Communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully with all levels of the organization.
- High attention to detail with accurate & timely completion of all required financial reporting.
- Advanced analytical skills
- ERP implementation experience preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations strongly desired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, charting, and financial modeling.
- Query writing and reporting skills are essential; Power BI a plus.
- Salary range $120,000-140,000 annualized, plus discretionary bonus
